Pacific FC Youth Shine at 2025 Canada Summer Games

The Vancouver Island Wave 2008 cohort, now referred to as Pacific FC Youth, has delivered a remarkable showing at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland, representing British Columbia with tremendous pride, skill, and heart.


Pacific FC’s youth development pathway was on full display as six Wave alumni earned selections for Team BC—two girls and four boys—standing as a testament to the strength of the Pacific FC Youth program and the club’s commitment to nurturing elite talent.


Celebrating Team BC’s Achievements

  • BC Soccer Boys Team secured a hard-fought bronze medal, capping the tournament in style and bringing home provincial hardware.

  • BC Soccer Girls Team also delivered a competitive showing, finishing fifth in a strong field.


On the scoresheet, Mattias Vales made his mark by scoring two goals throughout the tournament, a testament to his midfield drive and finishing touch. In the bronze medal match, Veniamin “Venny” Chernyshev further sealed the occasion with a crucial goal, helping cement the boys’ path to the podium. Katharina Cronkhite also scored for British Columbia.


For the girls, Katharina Cronkhite also found the back of the net, scoring in Team BC’s match against the Northwest Territories, a proud highlight of her tournament contribution.


Vales earned a spot on the Team Canada Starting XI for his performance during the tournament as the lone BC player to make the lineup while the collective performance all of of the athletes underscored the Pacific FC Youth program’s quality and resilience.

Head coaches from Team BC shared their pride: Niko Marcina lauded the women’s squad for their culture of connection and mutual support, calling their journey “truly inspiring,” while Luca Dalla Pace praised the boys’ group for embracing a rare and skilled opportunity to compete nationally.


Next Stop: PDP National Championship


The excitement doesn’t stop—with the Canada Summer Games wrapped, the four boys—Edgson, Chernyshev, Mackenzie-Elrick, and Vales—are already gearing up to ramp up their competitive intensity this week as they represent the Vancouver Island Wave at the PDP National Championship. It’s another national stage where they’ll showcase their talents and continue building on the momentum forged in St. John’s.
